PLEXUS

Plexus

9:30 minutes, HD video with stereo sound, animation by Rachel Clarke, music composed by Stephen Blumberg

Describing an intricate network or web-like formation, the word "plexus" derives from the Latin "plectere", to braid. It is also used to describe the interconnected networks of nerves and vessels in the body. In this digitally animated video, image fragments derived from digital photographs of discarded junk are drastically manipulated. The image data is broken down, reformulated, and then woven into aggregated cellular structures, forming fluid spaces. The forms, spaces and sounds ambiguously suggest nature, creating a synthetic ecology.
