Form Constants

A series of augmented-reality drawings that make an invisible visual phenomenon—the mind’s eye—visible.

Form Constants are augmented-reality drawings referencing geometric patterns created by the visual nervous system beyond the eyeball. These forms can occur through stress, tiredness, headaches, or altered states of consciousness such as meditation, drug use, or psychosis.

It is a visual phenomenon shared by all humans, generally made up of lines, dots, and filigree arranged in brilliantly colored patterns. In his book Alternative Realities, Leonard George suggests that the first artworks created by Homo sapiens may have originated from experiences of these visual patterns. In these works, I use augmented reality to make this invisible phenomenon visible, revealing the “mind’s eye.”
